The Not-So-Easy Ease of WordPress Websites

I’ve managed three different WordPress websites in my marketing career, and now I get to play around in my fourth, the FirstTracks website. I’ve never built a website myself and I’ve always hired professionals. Each site was built for me with the promise that I could easily add content to boost my online presence, stay relevant, and ultimately improve my sales — the WordPress golden ticket.

I try not to take it personally, but I have a sneaking suspicion that developers have been creating “websites for dummies” because of how the back ends have been set up. (“Don’t touch that section, Sarah!”) Especially since even with all of the specially labeled boxes and tabs, I still manage to mess things up. This brings me to the critical process of setting up a website:

  • Planning & Strategy: What does the website need to do and how will or could it be used?
  • Design and Creation: How do you implement the tools in the best way for you to work with them?
  • Training & Education: Even though WordPress is easy, don’t overlook this! Using your website should be enjoyable.

Let me back up for a minute. This post is not about how the back end of the FirstTracks Website is the best and easiest I’ve ever seen. Really, it isn’t.  It is about my utter respect for our designers’ abilities to build unique and powerful websites for our clients. Their special ability is building websites that are designed for users to accomplish real business tasks.  One-size-fits-all developers need not apply. Our portfolio sites each demonstrate tangible business improvements through their website utilization.

I’m further impressed by the capabilities of WordPress websites. Sites like Yankee Magazine with it’s millions of records of past data and the ability to customize each user’s experience; and our latest launch buysocceruniforms.com with its multifaceted search modules and ability to instantaneously apply discounts as products are placed in the shopping basket; these are the processes that make the web managers lives easier.

Technology is often blamed for slowing down real business, but when it is implemented correctly it can truly ignite your sales and marketing. Interested in learning more? Give us a call at 603-924-1978 or fill out our short request form.
