Want to be the wet baby?

Picture of a wet babyIn my previous business life I lived in the world of manufacturing just as industries were moving to Asia. In my industry the manufacturing was first in the US, then Korea which had the right raw materials and labor costs, then in an instant it all moved to China. My first trip to our new Chinese factory was on the back of a motor bike over a dirt road. A new clean factory in a drained rice field. Fast forward 6 months, yes, ONLY 6 months and I was now headed to the same factory in a Mercedes taxi on a two lane highway. When China puts it’s mind to something it happens, FAST. The manufacturing world was freaking. Got to get to China right now and this was when Sam Walton was still DEMANDING all Wal-Mart goods be made in the USA. Oh how quickly that edict faded from the motorbike’s rear view mirror.

A factory a week was being built and US manufacturing never looked back. It was all new rules and new businesses (think containers) being formed to service this brave world. Freight times, logistics, import duties, where do I design, where is my packaging made?? I don’t speak the language, what the heck is Chinese New Year and why is that now the most important event in the manufacturing universe.

AHHHHHHH. The speed of this change was both liberating and paralyzing….

So now I have to tweet, blog and post once a week, no, every day, no, every 2 days! Get found, SEO, coda sliders, Tweet decks and and and AHHHHHHHH. A good friend of mine who is an organization consultant told me the only person who really likes change is a wet baby.  Well, I want to be the wet baby and just as I got used to the new manufacturing universe 20 years ago. I can and am doing what all good marketers are doing for their clients.

We’re incorporating new technologies into our services. It’s a fascinating marketing world full of new, and yes BETTER tactics that enhance the sound basic marketing principles that have existed for years. Now we have tools like Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, fully optimized websites with a great CMS in place to truly engage our customers. We don’t have to beat them over the head with our jingles or our “buy now” messages. We can create an environment that allows them to choose to engage and learn what our products can DO FOR THEM.

Guess what? They get to be part of the message mix as well. They have the same tools we do and they use them to spread the word in an instant that they have found a product they like, that works and this is why. Creating a world of product and service evangelists, Oh Rapture!

So let’s get started. We’re not on the dark side. We’re on our customer’s side and who doesn’t want to be there. We can help. Contact us today.
