I have built a number of Assisted Living & Association Management websites using the Open Source Content Management System Joomla. In any of these projects I have yet to come across a potential client/organization that is integrating their data online in an efficient and effective manner. I know it sounds a little scary technically, but at the end of the day it’s all about keeping your members happy and making your day-to-day management tasks more efficient and less cumbersome.
So what do we mean by Information Integration exactly?
For this example, I am going to use one of the websites we have done for an Assisted Living Association, Mass-ALFA (The Massachusetts Assisted Living Facilities Association). I am positive that these are challenges that not only many of the other ALFA organizations in the US are currently facing, but also many other association-driven organizations.
Mass-ALFA has a member database of well over 900 organizations, and each of those organizations have an average of six contacts associated with them. So right off the bat you are talking about a lot of moving parts that need to be tracked, managed, edited, and mined for ongoing success of the organization. Before we developed this new system the Mass-Alfa office staff had to spend A TON of time just manually managing the database to make sure it was up-to-date. A membership organization’s database is the backbone of the entire operation. Being able to know who did what, when and how often at the drop of a hat, and having it be simple to create and accurate for export purposes is a luxury many organizations don’t know is possible.
The Key, When it Comes to Your Member Data is EFFICIENCY!
Managing and mining your data should not be a chore and it should work for you. What I mean is you shouldn’t have to make updates and changes to your information in multiple places to make it accessible. In my video example below, I demonstrate how fast and simple it is for Mass-ALFA to log-in to the back-end of their new Joomla website and make a quick update to one of their member profiles and update that information on the website.
This is particularly exciting for Mass-ALFA because simply by working with their day-to-day member information, they are able to control the availability and flow of information of member organizations from ONE PLACE. There’s no updating the company member database and hunting around for the right page on the website to make the same change in five different places. It all happens at the same time instantly as soon as you save the member profile in the database system. Fast, Efficient, Simple.
