The first baby boomer is turning 65 this year! This is a group (80 million strong) that has lived and flourished in one of the most prosperous periods in US history. Technology advances continue to stagger our imaginations. But…..and there is always a “BUT”. Who’s going to take care of us in our rapidly approaching elderly condition? Who me? Old? Never! Just replace the knee so I can make this summer’s marathon. Set me up with me a new heart, drop in a new lung and oh, while you’re at it, throw in a new hip please. Old? me? nah.
Boomer parents are there NOW!
Many of us still have parents around and we are experiencing a preview of our future with all its challenges, denials, costs and family dramas. What are the options? Assisted living, independent living, a nursing home, home health care? Isn’t it funny that the sibling farthest from the parent always has the most “informed” opinion.
Providers to the rescue.
For those of you providing these varied services, how do you deal with all of this? Communication with the Boomers and their parents has to take on a multi-level approach. You need to get your message to those making decisions and that could be a number of different family members spread out across the country and they very well could be in denial along with their parents. Are you answering their questions?
How do they find you?
What’s your website look like these days? What’s it look like on a Smart Phone? Do you have a plan in place to take advantage of the various social media options available such as FaceBook and Twitter. Brochures, Newsletters and direct mail pieces, where are they going? Have you joined business organizations like ALFA? PHEW!
