The Back Story

Ecological Landscape Alliance (ELA)  is a nonprofit, member-based organization made up of professionals, businesses, and proactive community members who believe in using landscape practices that are environmentally safe and beneficial.

The Challenge

The big challenge with this project was taking over the previous developers failed efforts to implement a successful membership system at all. The site when we took on the project basically didn’t work. There was no online registration or payment and managing the site content and overall stability was terrible, we had a lot of work to do.

A New Website Design

FirstTracks Marketing Group implemented a member management system that made all of this easy and seamless for ELA. Most popular membership plugins for WordPress fall short of expectations. They are hard to use, provide too many options, and are expensive. The FirstTracks solution: We have had great success using a combination of the following plugins: WooCommerce (for online payments), Groups (to manage what users have access to), and WooCommerce Subscriptions (to allow people to purchase annual memberships that renew automatically).

FirstTracks also built a custom post that holds all the information related to a member’s profile and then created a front-end form for members to edit data whenever they please. The information that’s entered is displayed on the members search page. FirstTracks also added a feature that gives ELA members the ability to purchase tickets for events at a discounted membership price.

    The Results

The new Membership System has provided a lot of growth for this non-profit organization

    • 40%
      Business growth YOY
    • 47%
      Average Order Value Increase YOY
    • 75%
      Sessions Increase YOY

After FirstTracks implemented the new management system and plugins, members of ELA were successfully imported and now have their public profiles available for people online. Members can now register on their own, update their own information, and renew their memberships. These changes dramatically decreased the amount of office work for ELA staff, giving the staff more time to focus on the business and providing a cost savings.
